چکیده
heavy water plus neutral current additive to an activity level of one decay per day per tonne ofD^O (DDT) for the thorium chain and(5(TpDTs for the uranium chain. /O jL^ It is equally important to be able to monitor these activity levels, by some form of ^f radioactive assay. From the point of view of purification the critical isotopes are 2 y year ^Th in the thorium chain (see Fig. 1) and 1600 year ^Ra in the uranium chain (see Fig. 2); whereas for monitoring, the critical isotopes are respectively ^Ra and ^Rn. However, in addition to monitoring ""Ra and ^Rn, the assay of ^Pb and ^Th in the thorium chain and ^Ra in the uranium chain are very important

We revise and update SNO-STR-92-094 to identify and quantify sources of systematic uncertainty in determining the efficiency for detecting neutrons resulting from the neutralcurrent neutrino disintegration of deuterium. We conclude that aUowing for two standardized neutron sources (one strong, one weak) that can be moved vertically within the cylinder defined by projecting the vessel neck downw...
متن کاملChanges to EGS 4 Since Version 1 . 0 SNO - STR - 95 - 039
This document outlines the changes to the EGS4 code between the SNOMAN 2-07 implementation (EGS4, version 1) and SNOMAN 2-08 (EGS4, version 2) implementation. A brief description of the changes is given, together with my assessment of the relevance to SNO. This document draws heavily on the references contained herein and a set of lecture notes entitled "History and overview of EGS4" [1].

The requirements on a neutral current additive tc the heavy water in the SNO project are as follows: water solubility, low inherent radioactivity or the availability of an easy path of purification from thorium and radium, the possibility for easy separation from the water phase and safety. The solution of such an additive is expected to be transparent in the visible range, stable for extended ...
